Pick me up, before you go go

Everybody has their bad days, when nothing seems to go right.  You feel like you're tumbling down farther and farther into the depths of despair, and nothing can pick you up.  For me, today has just been one of those days.  However, I have a cure.  Whenever I'm down I have things that I like to do that pick me right back up and make me feel better about myself.  There are a lot of ways I can make myself feel better, and I'll share a few with you.

One thing i like to do is channel my frustration physically (I don't actually hurt anybody).  Depending on whatever season I'm in (assuming it's school so it's an athletic season), I focus on trying really hard and giving 1000000003 percent.  when I let out this frustration I feel a lot better afterwords.  Working hard also leads me to another thing that makes me feel better: relaxing.  Sitting back and relaxing always helps.  It calms me.

When I'm relaxing I find myself reflecting on whatever is bothering me.  During this process I usually throw on some music.  Music helps me think because I can drown out everything around me and just focus on it without getting distracted.  Some songs I like to listen to in particular are Soundtrack 2 My Life by Kid Cudi http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZyDcktys9EU and L.A.X. Files by The Game http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ScCpzzcLpWo.  After contemplating for a while when I'm finally ready to get going again I put on some happy music, maybe some Basshunter or some Hellogoodbye http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sYu1C-Cn9Ag.

Being down on yourself always sucks.  However, I know that I have ways that I can make myself better.  I hope that you can too, and next time you're down I hope you pick yourself back up. :)

  2. I agree that music is a great coping device, especially Basshunter ;) Thanks for the inspirational message, though. Everyone has crap days from time to time, but it's nice to have things to look forward to.

Winter as a season can be somewhat depressing, but if you have an activity you look forward to during winter, it can be a really fun time (basketball, skiing, whatever).

  4. My bad. I realized that those songs are actually songs I liked.
Nice post. I even wrote a paper about this :D

  5. I agree with what you said about Athletics being a stress reliever -- it definitely works every time for me. Music is also a big part of my "bad day regime," and I think it's probably the most important for bad days out of anything you mentioned. :P

Great post, I feel like I'm definitely in your secret "bad day" club now. :)

  6. Music can do a lot to a person - change their mood, make them forget something, make them remember something. 's like self-therapy.

  7. Good post Tahar. Athletics is a really good way to vent your anger. Running as fast as I can in any given practice or event is what helps me.

  8. I defiantly agree that music helps to get yourself out of a low point. Athletics too, especially running.

  10. I definitely agree with the part about exercise. If I am really out of it, I will just go to the pool and swim everything off. Also, exercise doesn't just help get me back on my feet. Most of the time it will also help me work better right afterward. So spending that hour or two away from work wont make me stay up any later, but rather it will help me finish my work earlier.

    Great post! :)

  11. Great post. Music often makes me feel better when I'm down. And playing a song I love on guitar is even more reliable than just listening to a song I love, though that often does the trick. Sometimes sad songs make me happy when I'm sad.

Exercise, too. Especially a long, brisk walk.

  12. I love to listen to music when I'm down. Not only do I listen to Kid Cudi, but having Lupe Fiasco or B.o.B or Bruno Mars to listen to is great. Exercise is good too. I usually just pace around my house until I get tired and sooner or later I become calmer.

    Great post!
